Once again the Mid Herts Bonsai Club held their annual show (the third) at Kingsbury Barn - slightly later in June than in previous years, to avoid upstaging the Jubilee celebrations, according to a club spokesperson! This turned out to be a worthwhile change as the weather for the second weekend of the month was markedly better than that of the first. The display was made up of more than 60 trees, plus a collective group of the very smallest - mame (pronounced ‘marmay’) - which always fascinates the younger visitors, not to mention many of their parents. The centre-piece tree was once more one that had come direct from appearing at Chelsea. As well as the display of 'finished' trees there were demonstrations of some of the techniques used in training trees, and advice on cultivating bonsai trees. Kingsbury is a top-rank show, not to be missed!
