The Hoe and Trowel Group (including volunteers from this Society and Fishpool St. Residents Association) have further enhanced the Ford by laying an extra 6 tons of shingle. On 5 May, the new shingle was spread over the two approaches to the river. This was last done in 2010 and recreates the area we now call “St.Michael’s Beach”.
14 volunteers got together with Buttle plc to achieve this transformation and our thanks go Mr Peter Buttle for donating the shingle and to the volunteers who spread the shingle. When the water recedes to normal summer levels, the shingle on the beach side can be spread further down.
It is 10 years now since the District Council, informally, handed over the care of The Ford Garden to our sub-group, the Hoe and Trowellers, and we think the area looks better than ever!!
