Victoria Playing Field: Larks in the Park Sunday 29 June 2014
Off to a Flying Start
A model steam train, for driver and passengers too, had families queuing up for a ride at a £1 a go at the Larks in the Parks event in Victoria Playing Field on 29 June. This annual council run initiative is rolled out in five green spaces across the city and surrounding towns. It provides a free day of fun for all the family. Local groups can set up stalls, like the Civic Society, locally run play groups or those offering activities like face painting. The Victoria Playing Field event was very well attended.
As well as the miniature train, run by the north London Society of Model Engineers, there were other things to entertain. Samuka, a samba percussion band based in Hemel Hemptead, not only performed under cover, but paraded around playing so others could follow and join in. A cube on legs with its minder bemused adults and confused little children alike. Various vintage vehicles were not only on show but for sitting in by all the family too. Various sizes of balloons were a welcome treat together with stalls selling things to eat, from local honey to cakes and ice cream. Click here to see some photographs from this event.
